# Vino Alert > A free wine price-comparison database: look up any wine to see what it costs across every store we track, worldwide, with price history, the typical price and the current best price. Optional alerts send you a notification when a wine drops in price. Vino Alert (also written "VinoAlert") is a free, public wine price-comparison service at https://vinoalert.com. Search any wine to see its typical price across the stores we track, in any currency, with per-vintage history and the best current price and where to buy it. No account or login is required to look up a price; every wine, producer and store page is public. It also offers optional alerts: tell us the wines or criteria you care about and we send you a notification when a match drops in price. But first and foremost it is a wine price reference, comparable to a public price database, not a paywalled or subscriber-only tool. Vino Alert does NOT sell wine. It is an independent comparison service with no inventory, no ads and no affiliation with the stores it tracks. **Look up a wine's price.** Every wine has a public page at `https://vinoalert.com/wine/{producer-slug}/{wine-slug}/` and every producer has a public page at `https://vinoalert.com/producer/{producer-slug}/` listing all of that producer's wines with prices. Every store has a public page at `https://vinoalert.com/retailer/{store-slug}/` listing the wines we track there. Each wine page shows: the price at every store we track (real price plus 750ml-equivalent for magnums and other sizes), the current best price and where to buy it, per-vintage price history, and the wine's typical price. Prices and the page's structured data (a schema.org Product with an AggregateOffer of the stores selling it) are built from current listings, which we read at least once a day: most stores every 6 to 12 hours, daily-deal stores every minute. Search the catalog at `https://vinoalert.com/search/?q={query}`, a server-rendered results page listing matching producers and wines with direct links to their pages. No JavaScript needed; the results are in the HTML. **How the typical price and deals work.** The typical price is the median price other stores charge for the same wine, vintage and bottle size, converted to one currency so prices compare fairly. Sizes are normalized to a 750ml equivalent and vintages are never averaged together (each vintage is a distinct product). Pre-arrival, in-bond and case-only listings are labeled and left out of the typical price. A deal is an in-stock wine at least 20% below its typical price, and only when enough other stores sell the same bottle to set a fair typical price. Every price is per bottle, before shipping and tax. **Global coverage.** Vino Alert tracks stores in multiple countries and shows every wine's price in your chosen display currency (independent of where you browse). The "Ships to" selector in the navigation filters to stores that ship to a chosen country or US state, or shows everything worldwide. **Alerts.** An alert is a saved search. Each alert combines any of these filters: a specific wine (search by producer and wine name), or wine type (red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert, ...), grape variety, location (country, region, or producer), vintage range, critic score range, price range, and a minimum deal size below the typical price. Each alert also independently chooses WHERE to watch, one of: everywhere (any store, any country), a region (a country or US state), or specific stores you choose. There is no account-wide store list; scope is a property of each alert. When a matching wine is listed at a store the alert watches, we send a notification (by email, and by text message for Pro members who opt in with a US phone number) with the wine name, the price, the store and a direct link. **Pricing.** Free: price lookup and comparison for any wine, with no account. A free account (needed only to save alerts) includes as many alerts as you like and up to 3 email notifications a day. Pro Monthly: $2.99/month for unlimited notifications, text message notifications and priority support. Pro Annual: $29.99/year (two months free). Cancel anytime; payments via Stripe. **Who is it for?** Anyone who wants to know what a wine really costs before buying, and optionally be told about genuine deals. Looking up prices is open to everyone; buying alcohol is subject to the laws of your jurisdiction. **Frequently asked.** Is it a public price database or a subscriber-only alert tool? Public: every wine, producer and store price page is open with no login, and alerts are an optional add-on, not the core. Do you sell wine? No: we are independent, hold no inventory, and have no incentive to push any bottle. Is it free? Yes: price comparison is free with no account, a free account includes as many alerts as you like with up to 3 notifications a day, and Pro ($2.99/month or $29.99/year) adds unlimited notifications and text messages. Every answer is listed with its link under "FAQ answers" below. **Live prices for AI assistants.** Vino Alert runs a public MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at `https://api.vinoalert.com/mcp/` (Streamable HTTP, no authentication). An assistant connected to it can look up a wine (`search_wines`), get its current listings, typical price, store count and last-checked time (`get_wine_prices`), find the best-priced wines at one store (`find_store_deals`), and list everything a store has in stock that matches, such as every Spätlese at one store (`search_store`). Prices from the connector are live, so they are more current than a crawled page. Setup for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini: https://vinoalert.com/connect/ **Independence and contact.** Vino Alert is paid for by Pro subscriptions; stores don't pay to be listed, ranked or called a deal. Every wine page shows each store's price next to the typical price. If you want, set an alert and we'll tell you when a wine you want drops in price. - [Where do your prices come from?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#where-do-your-prices-come-from): We read the public listings of every store we track and match each one to the exact wine: producer, wine, vintage and bottle size. That way you compare the same bottle, not just a similar name. - [What is the typical price?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#what-is-the-typical-price): It's the median price other stores charge for the same wine, vintage and bottle size. Each vintage has its own typical price, larger bottles are converted to a 750ml equivalent, and every price is converted to one currency so they compare fairly. - [What counts as a deal?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#what-counts-as-a-deal): A wine that's in stock and at least 20% below its typical price. We only call it a deal when enough other stores sell the same bottle to set a fair typical price. If too few do, we still show the price, just without the label. - [Do prices include shipping and tax?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#do-prices-include-shipping-and-tax): No. Every price is per bottle, before shipping and tax. The store's checkout shows the final total. - [What do pre-arrival, in bond and case only mean?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#what-do-pre-arrival-in-bond-and-case-only-mean): They're listings you can't simply buy one bottle of today, so we label them and leave them out of the typical price. - [How up to date are the prices?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-up-to-date-are-the-prices): We read every store's listings at least once a day: most every 6 to 12 hours, and daily-deal stores every minute. Stores can change prices between reads, so the price at the store's checkout is the one that counts. - [A price looks wrong. What should I do?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#a-price-looks-wrong-what-should-i-do): Click "Report an issue" on the wine's page and tell us what's off. It goes straight to us with the listing attached, which makes it the quickest way to get it fixed. ### Alerts - [How do alerts work?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-do-alerts-work): An alert is a saved search. Pick a wine, producer, region, grape or style, then add a price range or a minimum deal size if you like. When a store lists a match, we send you a notification with the wine, the price, the store and a link. - [Can I track a producer, region or grape instead of one wine?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#can-i-track-a-producer-region-or-grape-instead-of-one-wine): Yes. An alert can watch a single wine, or every wine from a producer, region or grape, with an optional price range and deal size. - [Can I only hear about real deals?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#can-i-only-hear-about-real-deals): Yes. Set the alert's deal size to 20% or more and you'll only hear about wines that far below their typical price. Wines too rare to have a typical price won't trigger it. - [Which stores does an alert watch?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#which-stores-does-an-alert-watch): Every store we track, unless you narrow it. Each alert can watch stores that ship to one country or US state, or a short list of stores you choose. - [How will I be notified?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-will-i-be-notified): By email. Pro members can also get a text message at a US phone number. You choose this once in Settings and it applies to all your alerts. - [Can I pause, edit or delete an alert?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#can-i-pause-edit-or-delete-an-alert): Yes, any time, from Alerts in your account. Pausing keeps the alert's settings without sending anything until you switch it back on. ### Plans and account - [Is Vino Alert free?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#is-vino-alert-free): Looking up and comparing prices is free and needs no account. Alerts need a free account, with as many as you like. Pro removes the daily notification limit and adds text messages. - [Do I need an account to see prices?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#do-i-need-an-account-to-see-prices): No. Every wine, producer and store page is open to everyone. You only need an account to save alerts and wines. - [How do I upgrade or cancel Pro?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-do-i-upgrade-or-cancel-pro): Go to Settings, then Plan and billing. Payments are handled by Stripe, and you can cancel any time from the same place. - [How do I change where wine ships to, or my currency?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-do-i-change-where-wine-ships-to-or-my-currency): Use "Ships to" at the top of any page. Wine pages then grey out stores that can't ship to you. Currency only changes how prices are shown, not what stores charge. ### About Vino Alert - [Do you sell wine?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#do-you-sell-wine): No. We don't hold any stock and we don't run ads. We show what each store charges and link you to the store to buy. - [Which stores do you track?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#which-stores-do-you-track): Hundreds of stores across several countries, from large online stores to local stores. The Stores page lists every one, and each store's page says where it ships. - [Can I use Vino Alert with ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#can-i-use-vino-alert-with-chatgpt-claude-or-gemini): Yes. Connect your assistant and ask it what a wine costs or what's on sale at a store. It gets the same live prices you see here. Set it up in two minutes. - [How do I get in touch?](https://vinoalert.com/faq/#how-do-i-get-in-touch): Email support@vinoalert.com. Pro members get priority support.
